The ancient recipe dates back to about 1320 and were some cloistered nuns of the convent of La Maddalena to prepare for the first time this sweet that, for its external consistency but crumbly inside, looks more like a biscuit.

The name Roccocò comes from the French because of the baroque and round shape similar to a rounded shell.

These are the main ingredients used in the preparation of the Neapolitans Roccoò:

Flour, sugar, whole shelled almonds, ammonia for cakes, spices (cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, star anise) orange peel and candied citron, Limoncello Campano Lequor, grated lemon, water and finally 1 egg for brushing the surface and make it more shiny.
