Alife's waxed bean is so named for the particularly shiny color of the outermost layer.

The skin is very thin and it cooks quickly, the taste basically sweet, delicate and persistent. When cooked, it darkens into dark brown tones. It is used for soups and in particular for the typical Neapolitan pasta and beans.

The Alife's waxed bean is a characteristic legume of the area that goes from the plain of Alife to the hilly municipalities of the Telesina Valley and the Benevento area (up to the municipality of Pontelandolfo).
